Singing in the Rain: Anna’s Hummingbird

Anna’s hummingbirds are becoming more common in the Pacific Northwest. Their range is expanding northward. Speculation about whether it’s due toawarming climate or an increase in friendly suburban hummingbird feeders aside, this hummer’s lovely high-pitched notes brighten up the winter and early spring in the city suburbs. Seeing a little male puff up his feathers against the wind before launching into song is enough to make any bird-lover smile.
